The story of il Berneto
Il Berneto is built entirely of local stone and was originally a farmhouse, developed on the ruins of the ancient Castel Brandetto, built in the 11th century: the original walls of the castle can still be seen in the back of the house. The house has belonged to our family since 1800, and has been loved and passed down from generation to generation. In the recent years the villa was carefully renewed to offer comforts, while still preserving the character and warmth of a rustic countryside home in a rural setting. Timeless materials, generous spaces, and thoughtful details reflect the charm of Italian country living, creating an inviting atmosphere where comfort and authenticity coexist.
A farmhouse
The villa’s spacious layout ensures a relaxed and enjoyable stay, whether for a quiet retreat or a gathering of family and friends. Rich in character, Il Berneto offers the typical Umbrian ambience with wood beamed ceilings, terracotta floors and cozy fireplaces. The villa is air conditioned, heated, and has WiFi connection. The property includes an expansive yard, “the Aia”, with a grass field and the shadows of the trees, vineyards, fruit trees, firewood, and 1000 olive trees from which we yearly produce extra virgin olive oil.
A place to stay
The villa can host up to 20 people, with seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Two fully furnished kitchens are ready for you to cook delicious meals. Three spacious living rooms provide plenty of space for cozy indoor gatherings.
You will have the exclusive use of the house, garden and swimming pool if renting the whole unit.
A place to relax
The swimming pool, 14m in length, is discretely placed a few meters from the house, just out of sight, enjoying complete privacy. The pool is accessible by a path through the olive trees and is equipped with ample garden furniture.
The farmhouse has plenty of outdoors space to enjoy the birds singing, the breeze and to wander between olive yards and hilly paths.
A place to enjoy the green heart of Italy
Il Berneto is set in the heart of central Italy, offering an ideal base for exploring the surrounding region. Sitting in the Umbrian hills, 500 meters above sea level, nestled within 300 acres of flowering fields, olive groves, and woodlands, the villa enjoys stunning views of the nearby medieval town of Monteleone d’Orvieto.
Charming hill towns such as CittĂ della Pieve, Orvieto, Perugia, Assisi, and Cetona are within easy reach, along with Lake Trasimeno, local thermal spas. The iconic cities of Siena, Florence, and Rome are accessible via train connections or 1.30h driving. The villa is just 8 km from the nearest highway exit, ensuring easy access.
